Guest cards: figures that make a difference

Guest cards are the key to millions of holiday experiences. In August 2025 alone, over 4.15 million guests used the feratel CardSystem for their experiences at their destinations.

Imagine a family on summer vacation: after arriving at the hotel, they receive their guest card. In most cases, this is done via their smartphone. This opens the door to cable cars, museums, swimming pools, and public transportation.

On the very first day of their well-deserved vacation, they take the mountain railway to go hiking, then visit a museum. Later that day, they quickly take the regional bus to the swimming pool and return to their accommodation in the evening. All with one card.

The CardSystem from feratel makes it possible

In August 2025, a total of 4.15 million cards were active, 573,000 more than in the same month last year. The top 10 guest card projects from feratel alone accounted for over 1.7 million cards in that month. Large prepaid models such as Lower Austria (903,000 cards) and Ruhrtop (497,000 cards) further strengthened the overall result.

Impressive performance in the background

Behind each of these cards is a guest who is using it to experience something new. To ensure that all guests can use their cards, the feratel system reliably processes enormous amounts of data:

  • More than 100 million requests in August – comparable to the number of online orders placed during the Christmas season by an international retailer.
  • Up to 3,000 requests per minute during peak hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) – comparable to the capacity utilization of the Vienna subway during the morning rush hour, only digitally throughout the day.
  • Over 11 billion database accesses – as many queries as if every page of the Austrian National Library were read over 100,000 times in August.
